NYMS, short for New York Modular Society, was established in 2019 as a platform for modular synth enthusiasts in the NYC area to connect and share their passion. The initial goal was simple - to provide a Discord server for like-minded people to discuss their interests. Soon after, NYMS partnered with Strange Stage, an experimental performance evening, to organize their first live event, which turned out to be a huge success. From then on, NYMS continued to host monthly shows until the COVID-19 lockdown hit in February 2020.
Despite the pandemic, NYMS was quick to adapt and organized the first-ever modular synth-only online streaming festival called Signals. The festival featured over 30 artists, including notable names in the industry. NYMS continued to experiment with streaming and hosted weekly shows on Twitch for over two years. With the easing of restrictions, NYMS resumed hosting live events and launched several initiatives, including the Backyard Series, to support and showcase the talents of the modular synth community.
Today, NYMS remains committed to its mission of promoting modular synthesis as an art form and bringing together a diverse community of artists and enthusiasts. The website features information on upcoming events, artist profiles, and a growing archive of past performances. NYMS's dedication to its community is evident in its continuous efforts to create platforms for learning, collaboration, and performance. Whether you're a seasoned musician or just starting with modular synths, NYMS is the place to be.
